Your automotive electrical system covers everything in your car that needs electrical power to operate as well as the components that power it (for example the battery). This includes anything from the dashboard lights to complex computer systems that control safety and security features like automatic sensing technology, keyless entry, automatic braking systems or power steering.
When an electrical problem occurs with your vehicle, it is important that you describe it accurately. To help you with this, we have an electrical system diagnostic form that you can fill out to ensure that you are taking note of the appropriate things. This includes noting whether the problem happens intermittently or all of the time, whether there have been recent repairs, what components are being affected and other things.
One of the simplest electrical repairs is changing light bulbs like headlights, interior lights or brake lights. Most bulbs take from 5 minutes to 15 minutes to change, but as with all repairs, there may be difficult to reach bulbs that can take from 30 minutes to an hour to replace. For example, in some Subarus, you have to remove the car battery in order to replace one of the headlights.
Other common electrical problems include electric windows not working, a battery going dead or a starter working intermittently.
With all electrical problems, our technicians are trained to check the basics first. Battery and wiring have to be 100% before continuing to diagnose an electrical problem.
